The most practical way to serve the greater good is to live your life as a committed, intentional offering. Think of your time and energy not as a commodity to be hoarded, but as something dedicated to a purpose higher than yourself. When it comes to your inner circle, get real about who you are. Don't build yourself up on a pedestal. We are all part of one body, and just like a human body has different parts—eyes, hands, feet—we all have unique strengths. Whether you are a natural leader, a behind-the-scenes helper, or someone who excels at encouraging others, your contribution is essential. Use your gifts with sincerity and passion. Real love isn't just a feeling; it is an action. It means being genuinely devoted to one another and competing to see who can show the most respect. Stay hungry for growth, be joyful even when things get tough, and make it a habit to help people who are struggling. If you have the space, open your home to those in need. The way you handle conflict defines your character. When people treat you unfairly, choose to respond with kindness rather than retaliation. It is not always easy, but try to keep the peace with everyone. If you find yourself in a heated situation with an enemy, don't get even. Feed them, help them, and refuse to let their bad behavior turn you into a bitter person. Overcome the negative by flooding it with something positive. When it comes to the legal system and public order, the advice is simple: follow the rules. Leaders are generally there to keep things running smoothly and ensure that society stays on track. Paying your taxes and showing respect to those in positions of authority isn't just about avoiding a fine; it is about maintaining your own integrity and peace of mind. If you want to simplify your life, focus on one golden rule: love your neighbor as yourself. If you are truly committed to loving others, you are already hitting all the marks for what it means to be a decent human being. Love doesn't hurt or cheat; it fulfills every obligation we have to one another. Finally, it is time to wake up. We are living in a time where every moment counts. Put away the habits that belong in the dark—the excess, the drama, and the jealousy. Instead, act like someone living in the light of day. Carry yourself with dignity, focus on your growth, and stop making excuses for bad habits. The time to start living with purpose is right now. ### Living Sacrifices Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of [God](/persons/god)’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but think of yourself with sober judgment, according to the measure of faith God has given you. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and not all members have the same function, so in [Christ](/persons/jesus) we who are many are one body, and each member belongs to one another. We have different gifts according to the grace given us. If one’s gift is prophecy, let him use it in proportion to his faith; if it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is giving, let him give generously; if it is leading, let him lead with diligence; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. ### Love, Zeal, Hope, Hospitality Love must be sincere. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another. Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, persistent in prayer. Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality. ### Forgiveness Bless those who persecute you. Bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but enjoy the company of the lowly. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Carefully consider what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone. Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” On the contrary,“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;if he is thirsty, give him a drink.For in so doing,you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. ### Submission to Authorities Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which is from God. The authorities that exist have been appointed by God. Consequently, whoever resists authority is opposing what God has set in place, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the one in authority? Then do what is right, and you will have his approval. For he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not carry the sword in vain. He is God’s servant, an agent of retribution to the wrongdoer. Therefore it is necessary to submit to authority, not only to avoid punishment, but also as a matter of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes. For the authorities are God’s servants, who devote themselves to their work. Pay everyone what you owe him: taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due. ### Love Fulfills the Law Be indebted to no one, except to one another in love. For he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. The commandments “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and any other commandments, are summed up in this one decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. ### The Day Is Near And do this, understanding the occasion. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day has drawn near. So let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.
