Intelligence sources confirm that an urgent warning was delivered in a dream, directing the family to head for safety across the border. They have been instructed to stay in hiding until the current regime’s leader, [Herod](/persons/herod), is no longer a threat to the child's life. The situation on the ground has turned horrific. Upon realizing that he had been deceived by the visiting [Magi](/persons/magi), Herod has erupted in a state of murderous fury. Security forces have been ordered to conduct a systematic sweep of the area, targeting every male child two years of age and under. Reports of families mourning in the streets are flooding in as the region grapples with the fallout of the dictator's unchecked violence. Tensions remained high until news broke that the tyrant has finally died, prompting an end to the family's period of exile. Joseph received word in another dream that it was safe to return to his home country. However, upon arrival, he discovered that Herod’s son, [Archelaus](/persons/archelaus), had seized control of the region, creating a new wave of uncertainty. To avoid further danger, the family has opted to bypass the main centers of power. They have settled into a remote, modest town called Nazareth, far from the capital's reach. This unexpected move marks a quiet conclusion to a volatile and dangerous chapter for the family. When the [Magi](/persons/magi) had gone, an angel of the [Lord](/persons/god) appeared to [Joseph](/persons/joseph) in a dream. “Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for [Herod](/persons/herod) is going to search for the Child to kill Him.” So he got up, took the Child and His mother by night, and withdrew to Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called My Son.” ### Weeping and Great Mourning When Herod saw that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was filled with rage. Sending orders, he put to death all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, according to the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was spoken through the prophet [Jeremiah](/persons/jeremiah) was fulfilled: “A voice is heard in Ramah,weeping and great mourning,[Rachel](/persons/rachel) weeping for her children,and refusing to be comforted,because they are no more.” ### The Return to Nazareth After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt. “Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel, for those seeking the Child’s life are now dead.” So Joseph got up, took the Child and His mother, and went to the land of Israel. But when he learned that [Archelaus](/persons/archelaus) was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee, and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophets: “He will be called a Nazarene.”
