The message coming forward is simple: [God](/persons/god) is the ultimate source of light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him. Many people claim to have a connection with the divine, but the reality is that if we continue to live in shadows while claiming to walk with God, we are simply not telling the truth. True connection requires stepping into that light, where every aspect of our life is exposed and cleaned by the integrity of [Jesus](/persons/jesus). It is easy to pretend we have it all figured out, but the reality is that we all miss the mark. The good news is that we don't have to carry the weight of our mistakes alone. If we are honest about our shortcomings and simply own up to them, we find a partner who is incredibly faithful and just. He doesn't just look the other way; He actively cleanses us from the inside out, removing the heavy burden of our past wrongdoings. If you want to know if you are truly following the right path, look at your actions. Knowing the truth isn't just about what you say; it’s about how you live. If you claim to know God but ignore His guidance, you're fooling yourself. To really 'abide' in Him, you have to try to live your life exactly the way Jesus lived His: with love, honesty, and a commitment to doing what is right. This brings us to the core of the issue: love for others. We aren't talking about something entirely new, but rather the foundational truth that has always been the standard. If you claim to be in the light but still harbor hatred for those around you, you are still operating in the dark. It is impossible to navigate life correctly when your vision is blinded by resentment. The light is already breaking through, and those who love others are the ones who will avoid stumbling. Finally, a word of caution regarding where you place your value. Don't fall in love with the fleeting trends and material desires of this world. Everything we see—the status, the greed, the pride—is temporary and currently fading away. The only things that truly last, and the only people who will remain, are those who stop chasing the world's distractions and start focusing on doing what God actually wants. ### The Word of Life That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands—this is the Word of life. And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, [Jesus Christ](/persons/jesus). We write these things so that our joy may be complete. ### Walking in the Light And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: [God](/persons/god) is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us. ### Jesus Our Advocate My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate before the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He Himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments. If anyone says, “I know Him,” but does not keep His commandments, he is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone keeps His word, the love of God has been truly perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him: Whoever claims to abide in Him must walk as Jesus walked. ### A New Commandment Beloved, I am not writing to you a new commandment, but an old one, which you have had from the beginning. This commandment is the message you have heard. Then again, I am also writing to you a new commandment, which is true in Him and also in you. For the darkness is fading and the true light is already shining. If anyone claims to be in the light but hates his brother, he is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no cause of stumbling in him. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness. He does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven through His name. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning.
I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.
I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. ### Do Not Love the World Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not from the Father but from the world. The world is passing away, along with its desires; but whoever does the will of God remains forever.
